Tech Upgrades for Transport: STEMCO, “Ship.Cars”, and More
New Technologies Transforming the Transport and Logistics Sector

STEMCO, a prominent manufacturer of heavy-duty components and solutions for commercial vehicles, has introduced a new mobile application designed to enhance training and maintenance procedures. The app, named STEMCO Live, incorporates augmented reality technology to offer an interactive learning experience specifically for wheel end and steering products.

The newly launched STEMCO Live application offers several significant features aimed at improving user engagement and simplifying product optimisation. Key highlights include on-demand access to resources, detailed instructions for enhancing product performance, and interactive content that enables users to virtually engage with STEMCO products throughout the inspection and installation process. The app is available free of charge, offering comprehensive support to improve user understanding of STEMCO’s product range.

Meanwhile, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Clean Truck Check program has expanded its list of certified telematics providers for continuous onboard diagnostic vehicle emissions testing devices. CARB, which began implementing stricter emissions testing requirements for heavy-duty vehicles in January, has now added Samsara to its approved list, alongside Zonar Systems, Geotab, and Pacific Track.

Samsara’s newly developed CTC Manager is designed to streamline emissions data tracking and transmission for CARB compliance. Through Samsara Vehicle Gateways, the platform offers fleet operators improved visibility into vehicle emissions status, centralising this data within Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform. This integration is intended to simplify administrative tasks and ensure fleets meet regulatory requirements efficiently, ultimately reducing delays and enhancing operational productivity.

In a bid to strengthen security protocols in the automotive transportation industry, “Ship.Cars” has introduced an enhanced suite of protective measures for its platform users. These additions aim to protect carriers from increasing fraud incidents, a growing concern in the logistics sector.

The security enhancements introduced by “Ship.Cars” include stricter password requirements, mandatory two-factor authentication for account access, and proprietary fraud detection tools. The company has also integrated Continuous Carrier USDOT Authority Monitoring, ensuring only verified and active carriers remain on its platform. Furthermore, “Ship.Cars” has announced its plans to develop a new fraud detection tool that will leverage advanced algorithms to identify suspicious user behaviour and mitigate risks effectively.

According to “Ship.Cars”, the evolving technological landscape has heightened the need for robust security protocols. As part of its proactive approach, the company remains committed to advancing its security measures to maintain a reliable and safe platform for carriers.

In another development, the DOT 511 Traffic Network has now been integrated into the Trucker Path mobile app, which is widely used by North American truck drivers. DOT 511 is a comprehensive service that delivers real-time updates on travel conditions, road closures, weather-related disruptions, crashes, and construction alerts.

With DOT 511’s inclusion, the Trucker Path app now provides live traffic footage, enhancing its mapping capabilities to rival popular consumer navigation platforms. The integration ensures that over one million truck drivers using the Trucker Path app can access updated information on traffic congestion, incidents, and construction zones across the United States. The app’s improved navigation features are designed to assist drivers in planning alternative routes and avoiding potential delays.

Additionally, StreetLight Data has unveiled a new freight planning solution in collaboration with Altitude by Geotab. This innovative product integrates StreetLight’s machine learning capabilities with Altitude by Geotab’s commercial vehicle movement dataset to provide valuable insights for freight planning and decision-making.

The new solution offers detailed analytics, including truck volume data, congestion metrics, and activity trends across major roads. By incorporating data segmented by weight, industry, and route type, the platform enables planners to gain a more profound understanding of truck movement patterns. The solution is available within the StreetLight InSight application, allowing planners to compare truck distribution against other transport modes such as personal vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

This comprehensive data analysis empowers planners to identify travel patterns more effectively and improve strategic decisions concerning freight movement.

These technological advancements collectively aim to improve operational efficiency, security, and regulatory compliance in the transport and logistics sector. From interactive training tools to enhanced security systems and improved traffic mapping, the latest innovations are poised to deliver significant benefits for industry professionals.
