WhatsApp iOS Update Offers New AR Effects and Backgrounds

WhatsApp iOS Update Offers New AR Effects and Backgrounds
WhatsApp for iOS Launches AR Effects and More Goodies

The latest update to WhatsApp for iOS introduces an array of exciting features, making the app even more versatile. Among the highlights are augmented reality (AR) effects and customisable backgrounds accessible through the camera, alongside a new document scanning tool integrated directly into the app. These additions, first identified in beta builds, are now being rolled out to a broader audience.

As reported by the feature tracker WABetaInfo, app version 24.25.93 includes these enhancements. The update allows users to explore AR effects by tapping the image wand icon found next to the gallery icon in the camera viewfinder. These effects include options such as confetti, sparkles, underwater visuals, karaoke overlays, starry windows, and tear animations.

Additionally, WhatsApp introduces new background features that obscure the user’s surroundings, providing a polished and focused look during video recordings. Users can also fine-tune the colour tone of their videos to achieve the desired aesthetic.

Another standout addition is the document scanning tool, accessible via the document-sharing window under the ‘Scan document’ option. This tool simplifies the process of sharing documents by offering filters such as colour, grayscale, and black & white. After capturing an image, WhatsApp automatically crops it and lets users resize the borders for precision. For added convenience, the auto-shutter feature enables the app to automatically take a photo when the document is correctly aligned in the camera viewfinder.

Gadgets 360 staff members have verified the availability of these features in the latest iOS version of WhatsApp.

This update follows on from previous efforts by WhatsApp to improve the user experience. Recently, the platform introduced features designed to enhance texting and calling in time for the New Year. Users can now enjoy festive-themed effects during video calls, along with animated stickers and new sticker packs to complement the season’s celebrations.

With these additions, WhatsApp continues to solidify its position as a leading instant messaging platform, offering features that cater to both personal and professional needs.
