Tilda Swinton Set to Present VR Documentary Impulse
Tilda Swinton will narrate the VR documentary Impulse at Venice Film Festival

In the next chapter of the festival’s acclaimed VR documentary, Playing With Reality, Tilda Swinton will be making a return appearance at the Venice Immersive program.

The Impulse track from producer Anagram’s Playing With Reality collection will be narrated by the Academy Award winner. Previously, Swinton narrated the VR video Goliath from 2021, which examined a man’s experience with madness. Later, the VR experience was nominated for an Outstanding Interactive Media Innovation News & Documentary Emmy Award and went on to win the Grand Jury Prize for Best VR Immersive Work.

Barry Gene Murphy and May Abdalla co-directed the interactive mixed reality documentary Impulse: Playing with Reality. Through the accounts of four individuals coming to grips with the choices that have shaped their life, the project investigates ADHD.

The co-director, May Abdalla, expressed excitement about Tilda Swinton’s return to the ‘Playing with Reality’ collection for ‘Impulse.’ She praised Swinton’s acting presence, noting that she skillfully guides viewers through each unique story. Abdalla added that, regardless of one’s personal experience with stories like those in ‘Impulse,’ Swinton leaves the audience with a sense of understanding.

In addition, Tilda exudes warmth and is not just a giant, remarked co-director Barry Gene Murphy. In a piece of art such as this, it is essential to be presented with something recognisable. Everyone involved is thrilled to have Tilda Swinton back on board because of her enthusiasm and voice, which so carefully frame such intimate tales.

Floréal and France Télévisions are co-producers of Impulse: Playing with Reality. During the Venice Immersive program in 2024, the VR documentary will have its premiere.

The Playing with Reality collection combines intriguing tales on mental health disorders with VR features and thorough research using a documentary storytelling technique. In order to transform these experiences into a compelling narrative, Impulse: Playing with Reality particularly collaborates with neuroscientists and psychologists to include more than 100 hours of interviews with people who fall on the severe end of the ADHD range.

Impulse received funding from the Tides Foundation’s Unity Charitable Fund, France Télévisions, CNC, Agog, and Meta VR for Good. Impulse was shown at the Tribeca Creators Market and the Venice Gap-Financing Market in 2023.

Additionally, Swinton will be there for the global premiere of Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language feature film, The Room Next Door,
