Disney’s Move in AI and Mixed Reality with the New Tech Group

Disney's Move in AI and Mixed Reality with the New Tech Group
Disney sets up a unit to focus on AI and MR tech

A strategy group has been set up at Disney to oversee and plan the company’s use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality (XR). This effort underscores the company’s dedication to approaching these technology developments responsibly while keeping its leadership in innovation.

Jamie Voris, who has been the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Walt Disney Studios for upwards of a decade, has been chosen to lead the new Disney Office of Technology Enablement (OTE). Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, was the one who officially announced the group’s creation in an internal letter. Voris will answer directly to Bergman in his new job.

Alan Bergman stressed how important it was to stay on top of technology changes, saying that this would become even more important in the future. He said that the company needs to use new tools in a way that helps its employees, their ideas, and the business as a whole.

The goal of Disney’s new Office of Technology Enablement is to make the company a forward-thinking, creative, and responsible leader in AI and mixed reality. As part of its job, it comes up with best practices for the business and makes sure that Disney’s projects are in line with its core values. Voris and his team will work with Disney Entertainment, ESPN, and the Disney Experiences theme parks, among other technology departments within the company.

Bergman also said that advances in AI and augmented reality have had a big effect on how people experience things, how creative people work, and how businesses run. He stressed the necessity of exploring possibilities and handling possible risks connected with these technologies.

The OTE team will be responsible for all of Disney’s business units and will work closely with company leaders from all over the company. The group’s job is not to centralise or take over AI or mixed reality projects from different business units. Instead, it is to make sure that these projects are in line with Disney’s values and goals. Bergman says that this method is meant to make it easier to be flexible, consistent, and quick in getting what you want.

Eddie Drake has been named the new Chief Technology Officer for Walt Disney Studios. He was previously the head of technology at Marvel Studios.

Reuters was the first to report on this news, which is a big step forward for Disney’s technology progress.
