SKYNEA Makes Global Debut at The Blonds’ NYFW Show
SKYNEA made its global debut during New York Fashion Week at The Blonds’ 20th Anniversary Show, introducing its augmented reality eyewear and connected wearable technology on the runway. SKYNEA created three customised AR eyewear designs specifically for the event and coordinated them with the fashion looks conceived by designers David and Phillipe Blond.
The runway presentation marked the first public introduction of SKYNEA, which is developing products that combine fashion, augmented reality, and connected wearable technology.SKYNEA created the three eyewear designs for individual runway looks and presented them as fashion accessories alongside the collection.
The anniversary show featured an eclectic cast of personalities, including Paris Hilton, Aquaria, Gigi Gorgeous, Dominique Jackson, Emira D’Spain, Susanne Bartsch, Brooklyn Van Zandt, Aqua and Lion Babe. The event marked two decades of The Blonds’ work in fashion and its presentation of glamour, spectacle and self-expression.
The runway video and imagery were also made available as part of the presentation.
SKYNEA’s AR eyewear weighs within 50 grams and incorporates Qualcomm Snapdragon processing. The glasses feature a MicroLED display with brightness of up to 1,500 nits, a resolution of 640 x 480 and a 26-degree field of view. The display lets the wearer view digital information directly in their line of sight.
Real-time language translation is one of the eyewear’s functions. The wearer can select the required translation language and converse with someone who speaks it. As the other person speaks, the translation appears in real time along the bottom of the lenses, allowing the wearer to follow the conversation without looking down at a phone or separate device.
The glasses also include a built-in Sony IMX681 camera for high-resolution photography and video. A five-microphone array and two high-fidelity ultra-linear speakers support hands-free communication and audio. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 provide connectivity, while voice control, multifunction controls and touch gestures provide additional ways to operate the eyewear.
The glasses are compatible with Android, iOS, and HarmonyOS. They offer up to approximately six hours of active use while combining visual technology, photography, audio and connectivity in a lightweight design intended for everyday wear.
The eyewear is part of a wider collection of connected accessories SKYNEA is developing. The company is preparing smart rings, brooches and bracelets designed to communicate with the AR glasses and control specific functions directly from the accessory.
The accessories are intended to work alongside the eyewear as part of a complete look. The approach links jewellery and AR glasses within an interconnected fashion ecosystem, allowing users to connect with technology through wearable pieces as well as the glasses.
SKYNEA is developing its products around the idea that advanced wearable technology can also function as a fashion accessory in its own right. The Blonds coordinated the customised glasses with individual looks and presented them alongside crystal embellishment and sculptural silhouettes at the New York Fashion Week runway show.
The three designs therefore formed part of the fashion presentation rather than being shown separately from the collection. Their runway debut marked SKYNEA’s first global public introduction and linked its AR eyewear to The Blonds’ anniversary show.
SKYNEA plans to launch on Kickstarter soon. The New York Fashion Week debut signals the beginning of a broader global rollout of its AR eyewear and connected accessory collection. SKYNEA plans additional product launches, and it will announce availability details.
