Sandbox VR to Open Surrey Site on 13 February
Sandbox VR will open a new venue in Surrey, British Columbia, on 13 February, continuing its expansion across Canada.
The site will be located within the mixed-use King George Hub development and will become the company’s seventh location in the country, reflecting increasing demand for location-based immersive entertainment.
The Surrey venue will join existing Canadian locations in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Vaughan and two sites in Montreal. Globally, Sandbox VR reports close to 150,000 players each month as it expands through a combination of company-operated venues and franchise partnerships.
The company was founded by former video game industry professionals with experience at EA, Sony and Ubisoft. Its concept centres on full-body virtual reality group experiences in which participants wear headsets, haptic vests and motion sensors, allowing them to see and interact with each other in real time within shared digital environments.
The Surrey facility will cover approximately 3,973 square feet and will include three private virtual reality rooms. Each room will accommodate groups of up to six players. The experience is designed as a shared activity, and personalised highlight videos are generated after each session for participants to review and share.
The company indicated that the Surrey opening forms part of its broader Canadian growth strategy, driven by demand for social entertainment experiences.
The local franchise operator identified Surrey’s population growth and demographic diversity as factors in the site selection. The location within King George Hub, an area that combines transit access with retail, dining and entertainment, was also cited as a strategic consideration.
At launch, the venue will offer the company’s full range of immersive titles, including licensed experiences developed in partnership with Netflix. These include Stranger Things: Catalyst, set within Hawkins National Laboratory and the Upside Down, and Rebel Moon: The Descent, developed with director Zack Snyder and based on the Rebel Moon universe.
Other experiences available at opening will include Deadwood PHOBIA and additional titles from the Deadwood series, Squid Game Virtuals, Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, Curse of Davy Jones, Amber Sky 2088 and UFL: Unbound Fighting League.
To mark the launch, Sandbox VR is offering a limited-time presale discount of 30 per cent for the Surrey location using a promotional code valid until 12 February. Session bookings ahead of the opening are available through the venue’s official website.
