The official announcement will be made during the upcoming Super Bowl.
On February 2nd, 2022, Meta (formerly Facebook) revealed a cryptic video on YouTube. The content hinted at an old-fashioned arcade restaurant. To be known as Questy’s, this virtual gaming and pizza joint will reportedly serve as a setting for a TV spot to be aired on February 13th during the most anticipated sports event of the year—the Super Bowl.
According to the video, it will be a 60-second commercial representing a group of long-lost friends who will reconnect via the Quest 2 in Horizon Worlds, Meta’s own VR social platform, or as it is commonly known as the metaverse. In a rather interesting turn of events, the subjects that the commercial will be focusing on are revealed to be animatronics, not persons. As it might be guessed from the teaser, the commercial will conclude with the friends happily reuniting on Questy’s stage.
Speaking on behalf of Meta’s marketing team, Chelsey Susin and Dave Kaufman said in an official release that the company has built a first-of-its-kind virtual replica of a vintage arcade joint in Horizon Worlds. As cool it might sound, there is more to the story. And it is even cooler as one might argue. As per the news from Meta, Quest 2 users too can visit this unique arcade restaurant in VR. The VR arcade restaurant will soon be made publicly available via the Quest 2 VR headsets.
Following the official statement, the company further revealed some more details about Questy’s on 3rd February. As part of the Meta Quest 2 promotion, the VR arcade restaurant with a distinct ’90s feel will have a variety of virtual environments for the patrons to enjoy. Dave Kaufman, Global Director of Marketing for Meta Quest and Metaverse remarked that as soon as they saw the commercial, it was immediately evident that this was way too cool to be confined to the TV screens. Therefore, the company decided to transform Questy’s into a virtual space where users can hang out with friends while enjoying a vintage ’90s setting. To make the experience even more interesting, it was decided that the restaurant will serve virtual pizza and the visitors can enjoy a wide range of vintage arcade games at the joint.
To make the vision a reality, Meta has joined forces with a talented pool of Horizon Worlds developers. Together, they are now working to create a virtual replica of Questy’s inside the company’s VR social platform. Susin and Kaufman also hinted that the experience would feature even more exciting experiences down the line. As we are aware, Horizon Worlds offers a wide range of developer tools that can be used to create complex gaming and social VR experiences. While they are in the right hands, the VR arcade restaurant can also be made to offer interesting games, interactive VR experiences, and a plethora of fun virtual environments.
To know more about Questy’s, however, we will have to wait until the Super Bowl next week.
