Snap Introduces AR Beatles Lens on Snapchat
AR Studio Paris, part of Snap, created an augmented reality experience that allows users to relive four key moments from the Beatles’ visual and musical evolution. The Lens offers an interactive, music-driven tour that lets users engage with elements of the band’s recognised cultural legacy.
The activation spotlights the group’s impact by leading users through the band’s artistic and stylistic phases. At launch, users choose from three tracks, “Hey Jude,” “Here Comes the Sun,” or “Let It Be”, which play throughout the journey. Users can explore band members and four distinct eras, creating a personalised, absorbing experience tied to their music selection.
Snap claims the project uses augmented reality to present cultural material in a new format. AR Studio Paris reports that its tools recreate visual elements from various periods of the band and enable user interaction.
The experience uses several AR technologies. Gaussian Splat technology replicates the band’s hairstyles and silhouettes. AR lip-sync corresponds to the user’s movements to the vocal output to simulate a performance. 3D garment morphing changes clothing in real time to reflect the evolution of visual style across eras.
To access the Lens, users simply open Snapchat and select “The Fab Four” from the carousel or scan the Snapcode. As they use the Lens, they appear as different Beatles, moving through looks from John to Paul, George, and Ringo. Enabling sound lets users perform along with selected music via AR lip-sync, improving the sense of participation. Content can be easily shared with friends or posted to Stories, letting users showcase their interactive Beatles experience.
Snap stated the activation is designed to let users actively explore the Beatles’ music, style, and identity through hands-on interaction, delivering a unique, engaging experience beyond simple viewing.
