Claude Duet: Anthropic’s New AI Agent for Professionals

Claude Duet: Anthropic’s New AI Agent for Professionals
Anthropic Unveils Claude Duet AI Agent for Professionals

Claude Duet, a proactive artificial intelligence agent for professionals and small business owners in a research preview, was unveiled by Anthropic PBC on Wednesday. It remains working behind the scenes, completes duties when asked, and continuously checking in.

For Pro and Max subscribers, Duet is accessible as a stand-alone app on the web, iOS, and Android.

According to the company, the new assistant will only monitor messages when something needs to be addressed and will send a brief summary of the most crucial things from all linked apps every morning. Like a digital secretary, they can also manage a wide range of administrative duties. These include setting up meetings and more difficult jobs like developing interactive dashboards, forecasting sales or finances, prototyping, and developing web applications.

Users will send messages without any setup or prompts, duet like a teammate via voice or text. It is intended to be used as a secretary with access to apps, a calendar, email, and other related data. It has a running history in a single thread because it is a part of Claude. It retrieves completed work, such as a document, sheet, or deck, for review and retains user input.

Users already engage with Claude’s duet feature. It doesn’t require any extra setup because it can access memory, skills, and apps from Claude.

Anthropic emphasised that Duet is based on its framework for reliable agents, which also serves as the foundation for the company’s current agentic systems, including Claude in Chrome and Claude Code. By examining messages for sensitive information leaks and consulting the user before making significant decisions, an automatic classifier validates any actions the agent takes.

According to the company, Anthropic employees use Duet. The team behind Duet uses it to develop the product, and Boris Cherny, the owner of Claude Code, uses it on walks to discuss tasks and save time at his desk. The team’s leader, Karan Ahuja, uses it to plan user interviews and even ship code.

The research preview aims to provide Anthropic with insights into the use cases and potential failures of Duet. Currently, it is in its initial experimental phase. It may still misinterpret a conversation or misjudge the urgency of tasks: the agent is focused on work-related activities, so personal tasks, like booking tickets, won’t be prioritised, and it cannot display its browser. The organisation plans to use feedback from early users to refine its functionality.
