John Deere Launches XR Training System at ConExpo

John Deere has unveiled its new Extended Reality (XR) Training System, designed to revolutionise operator training with immersive technology.

Presented at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2026, the headset-based system delivers interactive training experiences for operators, dealers, and customers in multiple environments, combining virtual and augmented reality within a dedicated headset.

Designed as a fully portable platform, the XR Training System enables operator, dealer, and customer instruction at dealerships, job sites, classrooms, and events, eliminating the need for fixed simulators.

The platform offers operator instruction, machine walkarounds, and both technical and sales learning within one system. Configured headsets, such as the Meta Quest 3 and Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise, serve as the interface.

The initial release, available to customers and dealers, focuses on two machines: the 650 P-Tier dozer and the 210 P-Tier excavator. Virtual reality lessons address operator tasks such as daily maintenance walkarounds, controls familiarisation, and interaction modules, including trenching and material spreading.

Augmented reality features are also incorporated, permitting users to identify electrical components and complete machine walkarounds using visual overlays aligned with the equipment.

A sandbox mode, based on the John Deere Coal Valley training site, is also included. This mode allows users to explore and operate machinery in a virtual environment without guided instruction. It supports familiarisation, education, and customised training.

A challenge mode is also included, offering timed operational tasks and gamified scenarios created to assess user performance in simulated conditions.

The XR Training System is expected to expand with additional machine models, expanded lesson content, additional functionality, and broader access options.
