New AR glasses and Quest 3S among special attractions at Meta Connect 2024
At its next Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta plans to introduce the Quest 3S and Orion AR spectacles. Additionally, the event will highlight improved AI capabilities, namely using the Llama 3.1 big language model to augment current device functionality.
The tech giant Meta is preparing to reveal its most recent developments in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) at its much awaited autumn event, Meta Connect 2024. The IT industry is becoming more competitive, especially with the advent of Apple’s Vision Pro. Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, is eager to emphasise the company’s unique approach, which places a significant emphasis on artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology.
Among the most anticipated aspects of the event is the unveiling of the Orion AR glasses, a stylish and more approachable substitute for conventional mixed reality goggles. The Orion glasses will let users interact with their surroundings while superimposing digital information, in contrast to Meta’s prior Quest 3, which provides an immersive VR experience by obstructing the actual world. Unlike bulky gadgets like HoloLens or Magic Leap, Zuckerberg has hinted at a model of these spectacles that looks more like contemporary eyeglasses.
Zuckerberg piqued interest in this year’s proposals during last year’s Meta Connect by introducing ideas for augmented reality spectacles with a novel wrist-based controller. Additionally, next year, the business intends to launch an enhanced version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses. These glasses will have a tiny screen integrated into the frame, in addition to the already present camera and audio features. According to Meta’s plans, consumer augmented reality glasses will be available by 2027.
Along with the AR glasses, Meta is likely to show off a cheaper version of its Quest 3 headset, which is likely to be called Quest 3S. Recent leaks say that this model could sell for around $299, making it an easy way for people to get into Meta’s VR environment while still getting a good experience like the Quest 3.
Also, AI skills will be a big part of the event. Using the new Llama 3.1 big language model, Meta wants to improve the AI features on its products, such as the Ray-Ban smart glasses. The language, math, and general knowledge tools have been criticised for not being very good in their current form. This fix should make them better.
The buzz around the release of the Quest 3S, Orion AR glasses, and developments in artificial intelligence as Meta Connect 2024 draws near shows Meta’s dedication to keep ahead of technological innovation in the fast changing VR and AR scene.
