Rowers can access real-time AR analytics through CrewNerd ActiveLook app integration
The makers of a cutting-edge micro-projection system that blends inconspicuously with eyewear, ActiveLook, recently revealed that CrewNerd, an app designed for paddlers and rowers on the water, is now compatible with ActiveLook’s Light AR technology.
ActiveLook, a heads-up display (HUD) solution for connected eyewear, combines minimal weight, low energy consumption, and an extremely extended battery life. MicroOLED is a Grenoble, France-based manufacturer of organic LED display technologies and micro-optics.
The business claims that by integrating with CrewNerd, rowers would be able to receive real-time data in their field of view without having to compromise their performance or concentration, making for a more engaging and secure experience. The company claims that because of the partnership, CrewNerd will be the first app for rowers or paddlers to provide athletes with real-time performance information.
Important parameters like distance travelled, heart rate, stroke rate, and speed would all be shown clearly in the user’s field of vision on the glasses’ lenses. ActiveLook glasses enable rowers to stare straight ahead rather than down at a screen when paired with an iPhone, Apple Watch or Android smartphone. Metrics are displayed right in the user’s field of view.
For Apple Watch users using CrewNerd in a watch-only setting, the problem of needing to glance at their wrist to determine their speed or stroke rate whilst rowing or paddling still exists. Instead, users may view all of their important data using ActiveLook without compromising their posture or interrupting their workflow.
Furthermore, rather than using a mobile phone screen—which can be difficult to read in direct sunlight or while wet—rowers and coxswains alike will find it easier to read measurements and performance data on ActiveLook compatible glasses, which come with many brightness options.
Through the new collaboration with CrewNerd, the company can now provide rowers that haven’t yet worked with heads-up displays. According to Eric Marcellin-Dibon, CEO of MICROOLED, this will enhance their experience as rowers or coxswain providing athletes to maximise their potential. According to ActiveLook, compatibility will ultimately contribute to users having more engaging and effective training experiences. It will also improve safety by enabling rowers to maintain visual awareness of their surroundings while still receiving real-time performance feedback. Coxswains will also profit since, during a race, they will be able to glance in any direction and still view vital information regarding the performance or advancement of their crew.
The company’s creator, Tony Andrews, said that they started CrewNerd fifteen years ago. He emphasised that the team have not stopped innovating and pushing the limits of how paddlers and rowers interact with their performance measurements and data since then. The brand’s collaboration with ActiveLook Light AR technology allows it to significantly improve rowers’, coxswains’, and paddlers’ experiences.
