AR Games Enhance Passenger Experiences at Oakland Airport

AR Games Enhance Passenger Experiences at Oakland Airport
Passengers Can Now Play Augmented Reality Games at Oakland International Airport

The San Francisco Bay Area’s Oakland International Airport (OAK) has started a new program to improve travellers’ travel experiences by bringing augmented reality (AR) activities. This project is intended to provide interesting, educational missions with an emphasis on aviation and environmental issues. It is the outcome of a collaboration with the educational technology platform Agents of Discovery®. The partnership is a component of the broader Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign, which involves several Bay Area agencies.

Craig Simon, the Port of Oakland’s Director of Aviation, said that the airport staff is excited to provide this new in-terminal activity. Families may spend enjoyable and instructive time at the airport with the AR games, especially because they provide kids engaging experiences.

Participants in the Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign may download the Agents of Discovery mobile app for free. The campaign is now live and runs until September 7, 2024. This software has “Missions,” or games, that are accessible at various places. Each mission has educational tasks that educate users about the history, culture, ecology, and safety of the area. These missions are available in English, Spanish, and French. OAK gives its players missions with a special focus on aviation and the environment.

In addition to the aforementioned organisations, the campaign is being supported by BART, Madera County, the City of Morgan Hill, Sacramento County Parks, the National Park Service, the California State Parks, the Oakland Zoo, Santa Clara County Parks, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. You may find more information on the Agents of Discovery website.

With the help of interactive and instructive augmented reality material, travelers—especially families—will be able to enjoy their time at the airport and further their knowledge.
