Nazara unveils Pokerverse VR in global gaming push
Nazara Technologies, the only publicly listed gaming company in India, has marked its entry into the immersive gaming sector with the launch of Pokerverse VR, a virtual reality-based multiplayer poker game. The game has been made available on major VR platforms, including Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro, signalling Nazara’s strategic shift towards next-generation gaming experiences.
Pokerverse VR has been made accessible to a global audience and represents Nazara’s initial foray into the virtual reality and multiverse gaming domains. The game has been developed by Hyderabad-based YesGnome and published under the umbrella of Nazara Publishing, the company’s dedicated game publishing division.
According to the company, the game introduces players to a futuristic poker lounge setting, offering the flexibility to experience the game either through fully virtual environments or via augmented reality overlays that integrate with the player’s physical surroundings. The controls have been optimised for VR, allowing players to interact through natural gestures, such as checking, calling, or peeking at cards, enhancing both realism and engagement.
Nazara Technologies indicated that the immersive features of the game were designed to reimagine poker as an intuitive and social gaming experience from the outset. The emphasis on tactility and interaction is aimed at catering to the evolving expectations of global gamers seeking more immersive content.
The company also highlighted the increasing relevance of devices like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest, which are gaining traction in the consumer tech space. Nazara expressed intent to collaborate with more developers interested in building games suited to this emerging technological environment.
Nazara Publishing, responsible for bringing Pokerverse VR to market, aims to support both Indian and international game developers by offering resources, expertise, and access to a wider distribution network. While no other VR-specific titles have been confirmed at this stage, Nazara stated it is in the process of identifying promising projects for future development and partnership.
Financially, Nazara Technologies posted a consolidated net profit of ₹4.07 crore ($4.71 million) for the fourth quarter of the 2024–25 financial year (Q4 FY25), a substantial increase compared to the ₹18 lakh ($20,790) reported during the same period in the previous fiscal year (Q4 FY24). Despite this rise, the company’s overall profitability was impacted by a ₹9.79 crore ($1.13 million) loss from discontinued operations recorded during the same quarter.
On a sequential basis, net profit declined from ₹8.85 crore ($1.02 million) reported in Q3 FY25. For the full financial year, the company reported a net profit of ₹50.96 crore ($5.89 million), a 31.82 per cent decline compared to ₹74.75 crore ($8.64 million) in FY24.
However, operational revenues saw a significant year-on-year surge. Revenue from operations reached ₹520.2 crore ($60.10 million) in Q4 FY25, reflecting a 95.40 per cent increase over the ₹266.21 crore ($30.75 million) reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter (Q3 FY25), however, revenues registered a marginal 2.7 per cent decline from ₹534.69 crore ($61.78 million).
With the launch of Pokerverse VR, Nazara Technologies is positioning itself at the forefront of immersive gaming trends, laying the groundwork for further innovation in the rapidly evolving virtual and augmented reality gaming space.
