Medieval Carcassonne VR Experience Opens in London
The Last Stronghold: An Epic Medieval Adventure, a new virtual reality attraction, opens on 12 March at W12 Shopping Centre, Shepherd’s Bush. Developed by Excurio with the Centre des monuments nationaux and presented by Fever, it recreates Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site, in a free-roam virtual environment. Don’t miss out; secure your place: join the waiting list now via the Fever app or website.
Set in the early fourteenth-century Carcassonne, the experience invites visitors to explore the city’s defensive structures, market areas, and exclusive stronghold spaces, immersing them in the daily life and atmosphere of the time.
Historical and archaeological research shape the digital reconstruction, which specialists from the Centre des monuments nationaux review. The 1304 setting features a narrative following fictional characters Simon and Agnès amid the era’s political and religious landscape.
Visitors participate in structured activities such as combat training, night watch on the walls, entering noble residences, and moving through busy streets, all integrated into a historical storyline of daily life in the settlement.
Carcassonne functions as the largest fortified city in Europe during the medieval period. Documented sources guide the recreation of its environment to reflect architectural detail, social structure, and the period’s conditions.
This attraction is part of Fever’s virtual reality offerings in London, which also include digital visits to destinations like Machu Picchu, giving audiences access to global heritage sites locally.
The Centre des monuments nationaux supports the project as part of its work to present heritage sites through a range of formats, including digital and remote access experiences. The initiative provides audiences unable to visit Carcassonne in person with an alternative way to explore the monument.
The Last Stronghold expands Fever’s immersive VR network, highlighting historic places, cultures, and periods.
Sessions run 45 minutes and are recommended for visitors aged 10 and above. Tickets and information are available exclusively through the Fever app and website.
