Marvel Unveils Deadpool VR Game for Meta Quest Devices
The Summer Game Fest brought an array of major gaming announcements, with one of the standout surprises being the unveiling of a new Deadpool virtual reality title. Set to release exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, the game will place players directly in control of the popular anti-hero, known for his humour and chaos-driven combat. Voiced by actor Neil Patrick Harris, the character embarks on a high-energy journey facing iconic adversaries from the Marvel universe.
Developed by Twisted Pixel, a studio recognised for its quirky and humorous titles such as ‘Splosion Man, this new instalment in the Marvel games catalogue presents an original Deadpool storyline. Players will follow the red-suited mercenary as he is unexpectedly pulled through a portal into Mojoworld—a bizarre and dangerous realm ruled by the villain Mojo. From there, Deadpool travels across the Marvel multiverse, battling enemies including X-Men villains Mojo and Lady Deathstrike.
Gameplay mechanics will centre around a dynamic blend of shooting, melee combat, and acrobatic movement. The experience is designed to fully immerse players in Deadpool’s unpredictable world, with combat sequences that include the ability to regenerate from explosive damage or dismemberment—aligning with the character’s famous healing powers. The trailer debuted during the event revealed glimpses of fast-paced action, irreverent humour, and Deadpool’s trademark fourth-wall-breaking monologues.
The launch of this title continues Meta’s trend of featuring superhero-based VR content on its headsets. Just last year, the VR gaming world saw the successful introduction of Batman: Arkham Shadow, which received strong praise for its faithful adaptation of the Arkham series into a virtual setting. That game allowed players to investigate crime scenes, outmanoeuvre enemies, and engage in visceral hand-to-hand combat—all within a highly detailed, interactive Gotham.
In addition to the Deadpool game, several other Marvel gaming projects are currently under development. Marvel Cosmic Invasion, for example, appears to pay homage to the retro side-scrolling brawlers of the 1990s, while Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, developed by Arc System Works, was announced during the June State of Play showcase. This upcoming 4v4 fighting game is set to feature reimagined designs of classic characters such as Iron Man and Captain America. It is slated for release in 2026.
Beyond those, more narrative-driven Marvel games are also in progress. Arkane Lyon is working on a title focused on Blade, the vampire-hunting anti-hero, and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra from Skydance Media is another anticipated release, also expected in 2026. These projects reflect Marvel’s broader push into diverse gaming experiences, covering everything from team-based fighters to story-rich adventures.
As for Marvel’s Deadpool, its exact release date has yet to be confirmed, but the game is expected to arrive later in the year. With its mix of outrageous humour, intense combat, and immersive VR gameplay, it aims to deliver a unique take on the beloved character, offering fans a new way to experience his unpredictable world firsthand.
