Marine Corps Deploys VR Combat Vehicle Training Globally

Marine Corps Completes Global Implementation of XR-Powered Vehicle Driver Training Platform

XR Training (XRT), which specialised in portable virtual reality (VR) training solutions, has completed the worldwide distribution of 81 Amphibious Combat Vehicle Driver Training System (ACV-DTS) simulators to the U.S. Marine Corps.

The delivery milestone follows the production award announcement earlier this year. It represents a notable accomplishment that showcases the effectiveness and requirement for swift prototyping and development methods. These methods are essential to meet rapidly evolving military training demands. The achievement aligns with numerous military force development initiatives that emphasise accelerated development, testing, and prototype deployment.

The project progressed from an initial prototype contract to complete deployment within 18 months, facilitated by an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA). Through close coordination with USMC leadership, XRT developed an operational prototype within 107 days (3.5 months). The company then obtained the production contract within a year of concept inception. Subsequently, they manufactured and distributed the systems over six months.

The Wave Warrior ACV-DTS was created through XRT’s collaboration with small business partners Talon Simulations, Theory Studios, and Enludio. It functions as a mobile XR-based training platform featuring 2DOF (2 degrees of freedom) motion capability. The system simulates sophisticated Amphibious Combat Vehicle driving scenarios across terrestrial, surf zone, and marine environments.

During the implementation phase, XRT coordinated global teams to install the 81 simulators and deliver comprehensive training to USMC instructors, ensuring immediate operational capability. The Wave Warrior DTS now operates at Marine Corps facilities worldwide and has been incorporated into the ACV training curriculum. This prepares drivers to confidently and competently navigate real-world challenges.

XRT and its partners will maintain their involvement over the next two years. They will provide maintenance services, data collection, and engagement monitoring for the simulators to evaluate usage patterns and effectiveness. The collected feedback and data will support ongoing software improvements. This ensures the system remains current while adapting to evolving training requirements. The continuous support structure ensures ACV operators maintain access to cutting-edge training technology for mission readiness.

Neil Levin, CEO of XR Training (XRT), expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the U.S. Marine Corps in delivering superior training for their warfighters. He emphasised their dedication to advancing XR-based training capabilities for current and future mission-critical readiness requirements.

XRT has additionally developed a new reconfigurable immersive training platform, the XR-VDT. Building upon the ACV-DTS foundation, this new platform seeks to address the diverse, complex requirements of contemporary military vehicle training programmes. The system incorporates Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) standards and XR technology. This delivers a versatile, cost-efficient solution adaptable to various vehicles and scenarios.

Additional information about XRT and its XR-based modular training systems for defence training can be found on the company’s website.
