Vuzix Announces Shrike Waveguide Platform for Defence
Vuzix has announced Vuzix Shrike, a configurable waveguide display platform for defence, security and first responder applications. Vuzix supplies AI-powered smart glasses, smart-glasses waveguides, and related augmented reality technologies.
Shrike is designed for applications including situational awareness, drone and uncrewed ground vehicle operations, and presenting mission information within the wearer’s field of view. The platform combines full-colour 1280 × 720 imagery with a 40-degree field of view and a compact optical design.
The display has a rated brightness of 3,000 nits. It provides 25 mm of eye relief and a 14.3 × 14 mm eye box. These optical characteristics form part of Shrike’s configurable platform for customers developing custom wearable display systems.
Shrike can be configured as either a monocular or binocular hardware solution. These configurations let customers evaluate optical and integration choices as they develop requirements for their own wearable systems. This gives customers a working hardware platform they can assess before defining a purpose-built product.
Available features include electrochromic tinting, which lets users adjust the viewing experience. Shrike also incorporates Vuzix Incognito technology, which is designed to reduce outward-visible light from the display.
Vuzix has begun shipping initial Shrike units to customers for evaluation and integration into custom wearable display systems. The units provide working hardware that customers can use to assess display performance, fit and system integration as they develop their requirements.
The platform is intended to support the process of moving from evaluating a wearable display to developing a system that meets specific programme requirements. Its configurable design gives customers scope to tailor the display to their application while assessing the hardware in the context of their own wearable system.
Vuzix’s waveguide design, display engineering and US manufacturing capabilities are also part of the Shrike offering from the beginning of customer discussions. The platform therefore brings those capabilities into the evaluation and development process alongside the display hardware.
The initial Shrike shipments are focused on customer evaluation and integration rather than a single fixed wearable configuration. Customers can assess the available monocular and binocular approaches as developing the optical and integration requirements for their systems.
Vuzix plans to demonstrate Shrike at the AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition from 12 to 14 October 2026. The event will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Centre in Washington, D.C.
The company also plans to demonstrate the platform at Modern Warfare Week from 16 to 19 November 2026 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. These events are scheduled to follow the start of initial customer shipments and platform evaluation.
Shrike combines its configurable hardware approach with a defined set of optical specifications and available display features. The platform provides full-colour 1280 × 720 imagery, a 40-degree field of view, 3,000 nits of brightness, 25 mm of eye relief, and a 14.3 × 14 mm eye box.
Its intended applications include situational awareness, drone and crewless ground vehicle operations, and presenting mission information in the wearer’s field of view. The monocular and binocular configurations, electrochromic tinting, and Vuzix Incognito technology provide additional options for customers evaluating custom wearable display systems.
Initial Shrike units are now being shipped for evaluation and integration. At the same time, Vuzix has scheduled platform demonstrations at the AUSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in October and Modern Warfare Week in November 2026.
