Rokid receives $112M in Series C investment to develop metaverse AR glasses
AR technology developer Rokid has revealed that its $112 million Series C fundraising round has been successfully completed, including a significant contribution from NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited.
In addition to a five-year cooperation agreement, Rokid said that the funding would hasten the development of contemporary dynamic interactions with users, which the business claims will constitute the foundation of the upcoming metaverse.
Through the strategic partnership, Rokid’s full stack technology solutions—which encompass hardware, software, and operating systems—along with its knowledge of augmented reality glasses and headsets will be combined with NetDragon’s expertise in online communities and platform expansion for the gaming and educational industries.
According to Rokid founder and CEO, Misa Zhu, the company is pleased to work with NetDragon as a strategic ally from now on. The latter will also continue to be an investor in Rokid. He said that Rokid is fundamentally a product-focused framework firm dedicated to human-computer interaction technology, with an excellent track record across various commercial and consumer uses. He emphasised the company’s status as a key unicorn in the fast-moving AR industry.
Zhu elaborated further, saying that the company is enthusiastic about working with NetDragon to widen the scope of possibilities with their education and gaming expertise, and utilising its massive global sales network. He is of the opinion that Rokid and NetDragon will ramp up product development and industry innovation.
Dr. Simon Leung, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of NetDragon Group, also commented on the development. He said that the company is excited with its investment in Rokid as it believes AR will be a key technology to facilitate the metaverse in the near future.
Dr. Leung states that NetDragon believes augmented reality (AR) will play a major role in how people communicate with each other in the metaverse. This is partially because AR is more suited to extended use than VR, which helps to increase the quantity and diversity of applications, especially in the areas of education and gaming.
Dr. Leung also remarked that its collaboration with Rokid will accelerate the launch of its AR-enabled line of goods and provide us with fresh possibilities to build devices with an unprecedented degree of user satisfaction.
