The “Gangster Drama” will be recreated as a moral choice-based VR game.
There is hardly any Netflix fan who is not already in love with Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby. If you are one of them, we have great news for you. The sensational gangster drama Peaky Blinders is being developed as an exhilarating VR game and will be available sometime later this year. Maze Theory, the leading VR developer renowned for developing popular VR games such as Doctor Who: The Edge of Time has recently unveiled the first look of their latest creation—Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom. The VR experience will be based on the smashing hit British drama of the same name and will feature some of the most popular characters from the show.
As per reports, this is going to be a gorgeous gangster drama where you will get to rub your shoulders with your favourite characters from the show. You will start as a gangster and will have to work your way up by earning the trust of the Shelby family. Once you get in, you will get to join their infamous crime syndicate and carry out the risky business. On your way to become one of the top dogs, you will also get to travel to some of the iconic locations from the show, including Shelby’s Betting Shop and Garrison Pub.
Developers from Maze Theory also reveal that the VR experience will feature several AI-powered characters with the capability of delivering interactive and truly believable performances. In addition to this, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom will also feature the voices of the original cast, including the beloved Thomas Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) and criminally underrated Arthur Shelby (played by Paul Anderson). The VR game will also have many easter eggs from the show for fans to find out.
The most interesting thing about Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, however, is that it is not anything like your usual shooting VR games. One will expect this to be a take on the standard hired gun out to kill enemies. But in reality, this is going to be a moral choice-based game. As you navigate your way through the underworld, you will be faced with several situations involving moral crises, and you will have to make hard decisions that will influence your character buildup going forward in the game. Your choices will also affect how other characters perceive you and eventually, how they interact with you.
Ian Hambleton, CEO of Maze Theory, said in an official statement that for the first time in TV history, fans will have a chance to come face-to-face with Tommy Shelby and other popular characters from the smash-hit series. The unique thing about the VR experience, as per Hambleton, is the truly believable and reactive characters, which makes you feel like you are actually facing the terrifying situations in the criminal underworld. It will be a thrilling and intense experience at the same time, said Hambleton during the official release.
No confirmation has yet been received on the release date or final price of the VR experience. However, it is reported that Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom will be available on the Quest platform around the end of 2022.
