The plot of Squid Games is riveting. In this drama series, a total of 456 individuals, all are severely crippled by huge debts or financial distress, are going head-to-head against each other to win a whopping amount of ₩45.6 billion (approximately USD 38.7 million). But, to win this prize money, they must not only win the games; rather fight for their lives. Losers in this diabolical competition will be gunned down and for each fallen contender, a staggering amount will be added to the prize. In the end, the winner takes it all.
Fans
Since it premiered, the nine-episode drama series has received rave reviews from both critics and the audience. Considering its success, it is soon going to be an instant classic for Netflix. In fact, the show has become so popular that some of its super fans, who also happen to be VR creators, have started developing an exciting VR experience based on the first episode of the series “Red Light, Green Light”.
Red Light Green Light
Arguably the most fascinating part of the whole series, Red Light Green Light is essentially a traditional Korean children’s game where one player takes on the role of the watchman and stands at one end of the field. When the watchman shouts “Green Light” with their back to the rest, the players must move forward. Then, when the watchman calls out “Red Light”, others must freeze instantly on their current position or they will be disqualified. The first person to cross the finishing line or tag the watchman is to win the game. However, in this spine-chilling episode, the disqualified players are to receive a bit more than just being sidelined. They will be shot to death.
Compete online
Soaring Roc, the popular game developer known for Let’s Go Chopping, has developed a VR version of this gory game. It is a multiplayer game where players can compete with others in remote locations through VR. In order to run, players must use their touch controllers back and forth. If they are caught moving, you know how things go down.
Creators
Along with Soaring Roc’s version, more VRChat creators are also developing their versions of the game. However, those are specifically designed for the popular social VR platform.
Soaring Roc’s Red Light Green Light is now available on Oculus Quest VR headsets completely free of cost. SideQuest is recommended to install the game on your respective headsets.
