Meta and Telefónica Work Together to Enhance VR Access
Meta and Telefonica collaborate to enhance older citizens’ access to VR

Through the Fundación Telefónica initiative, Telefónica and Meta have partnered to enhance older adults’ access to mixed reality. Through training sessions on immersive and metaverse technologies, this strategic partnership hopes to increase senior citizens’ engagement and accessibility.

The initiative’s goal is to provide individualised, easily available mixed reality experiences that foster amusement, learning, and connection. In this instance, Telefónica and Meta collaborated closely to provide easily navigable mixed reality material via MetaQuest 3 devices that are tailored to the requirements of senior citizens. This is why accessible elements have been included, such as communication and voice aid, to enhance the experience for those with mobility or poor eyesight.

For these in-person classes, mixed reality material is carefully chosen with senior accessibility in mind. These include a variety of digital capabilities, such as online trips to virtual artworks, recreational pursuits, virtual social connections, and cognitive growth experiences. Movistar is a fully immersive platform. The Application is a location inside the Metaverse where users may play games, exchange, find, and access new audiovisual material, as well as learn about Telefónica’s offerings.

Telefónica’s “RECONECTADOS, la tecnología no tiene edad” initiative has received backing from Meta Fundación and Telefónica because they share the goal of using digital abilities to create a bridge between the experiences of the elderly and the new technology world. The comprehensive and free RECONECTADOS programme helps older people become more digitally literate. It consists of online instruction, training materials for their local surroundings, and in-person seminars that are offered every Thursday at Madrid’s Espacio Fundación Telefónica.

META’s head of public relations, Jose Luis Zimmerman, said that the organisation’s overall objective is to make deep technologies accessible to everybody. In order to enable those who are unfamiliar with these new technologies to participate in this already-existing future and have the experiences that they otherwise would, the company’s staff is pleased to support this Telefónica effort.

According to Telefónica’s Chief Digital Officer, Sema Alonso, the firm has always been dedicated to making sure that everyone has access to technology so that they may have the greatest possible experience. It hopes to uphold this commitment via this partnership by facilitating seniors’ complete virtual reality immersion so they may take advantage of everything it has to offer and remain engaged with the rapidly changing digital landscape.

The two firms have committed to expanding and working together to explore new avenues for innovation in connection and technology inside MetaWare, using the maker community to generate new use cases. This cooperation is an extension of their previous agreement, which was announced last year.
