Your guide to accessing the hottest video game in VR using Meta’s hottest VR headset.
Just a few days ago, fans were elated to get the news of Minecraft finally arriving in VR. The smashing hit game from Mojang has had people hooked ever since it was first released. Naturally, it is easy to anticipate that the virtual reality version will create even more buzz. But there is more to the story and some more exciting news for Minecraft fans. Only a week ago, a team of indie developers created an unofficial port for Minecraft titled “Questcraft”. And this opens a gateway to magical experiences. Thanks to Questcraft, you can now play the exhilarating game in VR without any expensive VR-ready PC.
Albeit unofficial, Questcraft provides a full port to Minecraft 1.18. This gives you access to the entire existing Minecraft gaming worlds as well as some select fabric mods. The port also supports cross-platform multiplayer and motion control.
The setup of this port, however, could be a little tricky. But fret not. Here is your complete guide to getting started on Questcraft and enjoying Minecraft in VR.
- First, you need to download and install the APK file. You can access this free program via SlideQuest. Once you get there, download the zip file via the PC VR dropdown menu. However, you’ll need to create an official Oculus account in developer mode to get started.
- Once you are done with installing, unzip the file you have downloaded earlier. Then drag the Android folder into the Quest internal storage. This will merge and replace all the existing files.
- After the file transfer is complete, put on your VR headset and navigate to your VR library.
- In your library, select the folder indicating Unknown Sources from the drop-down menu. You can find it in the upper-right corner. Once you locate this, select PojavLauncher.
- Next, you will be asked to log into your Minecraft account.
- Once you are logged in, find the setting option located in the bottom left corner of the menu and select “renderer” at the top. Select the third option from the menu and then, return to the main menu.
- Last but not the least, you need to select the game version option to be found at the bottom of the main menu. Find the play button and it will be on its left. From there, scroll down and select “fabric-loader-0.12.12.1.18.1.” As soon as it loads, hit the play button and watch your game boot up.
The last step could take up a few moments. Don’t worry if you can’t see the game starting right away. Also, the developers recommend you adjust the render distance to enjoy the optimal experience. This option can be found in the video settings menu. If you are using a Quest 2, reduce the render distance to 5-8 chunks. But if you own an original Quest, reducing 4-5 chunks will perfectly suffice.
As mentioned earlier, this is an unofficial port to Mojang’s original game and was created without any support from the parent company. Therefore, you can expect some issues in the gameplay. However, the experience is phenomenal and demands your attention.
