Canon Introduces VR RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM Dual Fisheye Lens

Canon Introduces VR RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM Dual Fisheye Lens
Canon’s most recent EOS VR System lens enhances the shooting experience

Along with the RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE that is already available, Canon has announced the addition of an APS-C VR lens, the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, to the company’s EOS R System. Making excellent 3D VR film is now much simpler for everyone, even those who are new to the field, thanks to this new lens.

To replicate human binocular vision, dual fisheye lenses use two distinct lenses placed side by side. The views from the left and right eyes are represented by two distinct pictures, which are created by the somewhat varied perspectives that each lens collects an image from. The VR experience is enhanced by depth awareness, which is made possible by this stereoscopic effect.

The range of cameras that are compatible with the EOS VR System is increased by the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, which elegantly combines a left and right view into a single small dual fisheye optical design. Furthermore, this new lens maintains the excellent optical performance of the EOS R System while coming at a more affordable price point than its predecessors, making the production of immersive video of a higher calibre easier.

When compared to VR180 filming, the new 144-degree recording angle offers a smaller field of vision. This, together with the wide depth of field, makes it simple for users to focus on their topic and set up, since they don’t have to worry as much about tripods or other supporting gear falling into the frame. Users may remain completely absorbed in the action using the focus ring, which can be assigned to another function, such ISO or aperture, for useful shooting solutions. Canon’s first 3D lens with autofocus (AF) is the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, which also has the One Shot Autofocus (AF) mode to make the production process more easier.

It is the first lens outside of the L Series to have the high-end Air Sphere coating, which stops aberrations like flare and ghosting. Moreover, each lens has two UD elements, which contributes to the sharpness of the photos. High-quality video is guaranteed while shooting in a range of indoor and outdoor settings thanks to the f/3.5 aperture. Creative 3D storytelling may take place in any environment, from brilliantly lighted stadiums to darkly lit jungles. The RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE has a rear mounted filter holder that can accommodate both screw-on and gelatin filters, providing even more creative versatility.

The 3D stereoscopic lens offers a high degree of realism when watching video shot with the RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE in a headset. With its 144-degree viewing angle, the image is natural and forward-facing, drawing the spectator in completely with peripheral vision. Simulations benefit from the lens’s 60mm interpupillary distance, which closely mimics human vision when seen via a suitable headset and gives participants a genuine 3D experience.

The demand for VR content production is growing quickly (the industry is expected to reach over 22 billion dollars by 2025), and the newest lenses make it easier to create 3D material for a variety of purposes, including education, gaming, tourism, documentaries, and entertainment. Because of the lens’s compatibility with Canon’s EOS R System, VR content makers may operate more efficiently.
