iQIYI, an innovative and competitive online entertainment platform in China, is responsible for the introduction of the virtual reality (VR) based variety show called Memoon Player.
The first episode of the programme was aired on December 9 of this year. An original production by iQIYI, Memoon Player enables viewers to join the show’s players on their exciting journey in the virtual world of “Memoon land,” This realm was built using VR technology and is based on real-world locations on the Moon. Viewers can participate in the game by downloading the iQIYI app on their mobile devices.
The fact that more than 1.2 million individuals indicated an interest in the programme before it even premiered on the iQIYI app demonstrates how excited fans were about it before it ever aired.
The first episode of the programme saw the participants of the show donning motion capture gear and entering a virtual world with their avatars. In this environment, the participants interacted with one another, played games, and even delivered performances.
In its most basic form, the Memoon Land application (APP) is a virtually interactive space that was designed to provide users with a fully engrossing viewing experience that also has built-in social components. It was introduced in conjunction with the programme. In addition to following the journey of the participants of the programme on their trip, users of the app will also have the opportunity to take part in activities, interact with other app users, and even purchase things relevant to the show.
The Memoon Player demonstrated a smooth flow between the virtual and real worlds. This was made possible using a variety of virtual production technologies, such as holography, XR, virtual shooting, and virtual gaming. Creating the show required the contributions of more than 60 animators, more than 50 graphic designers, and 110 engineers who were all part of the production crew. The team constructed a motion capture studio with the assistance of the most advanced optical motion capture equipment available on the market today.
The motion capture studio has the capability to record the actions of up to eight different avatars at the same time, with the number of spots of observation for each avatar reaching well over one thousand. The team collaborated with prominent industry heavyweights such as Qualcomm, Baidu, and QIYU VR, amongst others, to establish over 20 workstations for UE real-time rendering and virtual human skeleton alignment.
The Memoon Player is not only an intriguing experiment in a variety of events, but it also exemplifies the boundless possibilities for enjoyment over the long term. iQIYI is a company that is dedicated to fostering technology-enabled innovation. They have recently released The Last One Standing VR, which is the first science fiction virtual reality production in China. They have also released THE9’s X-City Concert, which is the first XR live concert on a cinematic class LED stage with photorealistic virtual fabrication. The company will maintain its dedication to fostering the growth of the current entertainment era, which is characterised by the intersection of technology and intellectual properties (IPs).
