Virtual reality goggles will soon be supported in the Hogwarts Legacy spin-off game.
The breathtaking virtual reality visuals of Hogwarts Legacy were shown in a trailer two days before the game’s official release. A future virtual reality (VR) mod for the PC version showed off its first detailed scenes. The original game can only be played on a TV or monitor.
Praydog, a well-known VR hacker, is the brains behind this modification. It’s based on his Universal VR Mod, which makes it possible to play practically any game made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 in VR headsets with a completely unfettered perspective and six degrees of freedom (6DoF) just by moving one’s head.
Because it is based on Unreal Engine 4, the Universal Mod should improve Hogwarts Legacy. Praydog, a member of the Flat2VR forum and a developer, says that the entirety of the Harry Potter world will soon be playable in virtual reality with 6DoF.
Hogwarts Legacy is set in the nineteenth century, before Harry Potter’s escapades. The player steps into the shoes of a student who also possesses ancient knowledge that could ruin the magical realm. In this role, one gets a glimpse into the famed Hogwarts school, gets in touch with new people, and takes on a range of sinister characters.
Unlike in the flagship game, the player will not be forced into a third-person view. On the contrary, they will have complete freedom to roam the halls of Hogwarts in first-person. Interestingly, the perspective changes during the spells and video cutscenes present in the game.
When a player waves their wand around, they will get an overhead view of the character they are controlling. The displayed proficiency tests need input from the user through a mouse, gaming controller, or keyboard. It has to be noted that there is currently no motion control feature in the original game. However, the Universal Mod will allow users to implement this feature independently.
At this point, there is no definite timetable for when the Hogwarts Legacy mod will become available to players. According to Flat2VR’s Twitter account, Praydog is planning to release the mod’s initial build very soon.
The large hardware requirements that are necessary for the graphical brilliance have one disadvantage: On the Flat2VR Discord server, the developer states that the Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 that he uses is adequate for his needs. On the other hand, a GeForce RTX 4090 was used to record the fluid sequences in the YouTube video.
In addition, even when the native rendering method from Hogwarts Legacy is used, the mod continues to have issues. When used in the Universal Mod, this natural technique frequently produces the most aesthetically pleasing and effective results. On the other hand, according to the person who developed this game, utilising an alternative rendering method, such as AER, might be absolutely necessary.
In the beginning, Praydog developed the framework for what would later become known as the RE Engine. This framework is now utilised by the Universal Engine. It has been put to use in the process of generating modifications for a number of games in the Resident Evil series.
