Lenovo and Motorola Partner Up to Bring an Innovative 5G Neckband to Access the Metaverse Anytime You Want

The next-generation VR wearable could have a significant impact on XR technology and the upcoming metaverse.

Since its introduction, the metaverse has been growing at a surprisingly rapid pace. Naturally, it brings a host of incredible experiences and advantages with it. And sooner than later, it will become the most popular internet experience, says the tech experts. To catch up with the trend and have seamless access to this next-generation internet browsing experience, therefore, having a strong 5G connection will soon become imperative. To this end, Motorola and Lenovo, two of the biggest tech giants in the field of telecommunication, have joined forces to develop a unique 5G neckband to provide seamless access to the metaverse.

According to the reports, this worn around 5G neckband will be able to provide Verizon’s 5G Ultra-Wideband network to any and all AR devices, including standalone VR headsets like Meta Quest 2 as well as Lenovo’s ThinkReality A3 smart glasses.

On Friday, 18th February, Lenovo revealed the first look of this wearable 5G device. At first glance, the neckband looks more like a beefy lanyard. However, it is packed with some stunning features under the hood. It comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, SIM card slot, a touchpad, stereo speakers, antenna, GPS, gyroscope, barometer, accelerometer, 5000mAh battery, and more. Despite all these tech and specs, the 5G device will only weigh about 2.6 ounces, reported Motorola.

Both Motorola and Lenovo promise a comfortable and convenient experience with the 5G neckband for extended use. The developers claim that even after hours of wearing the device around the neck, the users will hardly feel anything. However, if you are concerned that it would look weird wearing a 5G device in public, let us assure you that with wearing AR and VR headsets gradually becoming commonplace, donning a 5G device will also become the norm real soon. But if you are still uncomfortable, you can also throw the device in your backpack if you want. The super-portable, lightweight device could fit in your pocket as well. So, carry it however you want, the stunning 5G neckband will keep giving you access to seamless 5G connectivity.

Brian Mecum, Verizon’s Vice President of Device Technology, recently stated in a blog posted in Motorola’s official blog that this ultra-lightweight wearable neckband will enable users to enjoy a host of immersive experiences across various fields, including sports training, education, fan experiences, and social VR platforms. Powered by Verizon’s 5G Ultra-Wideband 5G network as well as Mobile Edge Compute Platform, the cutting-edge device can also make VR theatres easily scalable in near future.

With the idea of the metaverse and XR technology evolving with every passing day, AR and VR wearables are gradually becoming a key medium of information consumption. What started with simple internet browsing has gradually turned into the metaverse. Subsequently, the wearables will gradually take up the place of smartphones and smartwatches. And 5G neckband could be a game-changer in this regard.
