Nintendo Launches a New Location-based AR Mobile Game and It’s Adorable

Nintendo’s cute little Pikmins are back in a Pokémon Go-like Mobile AR game and is now available for both iOS and Android devices.

Another instant hit
Niantic, the name behind popular AR mobile games such as Catan World Explorers, Harry Potter- Wizards Unite, and the most famous Pokémon Go has launched yet another stunning location-based AR game Pikmin Bloom. Based on another popular anime franchise, this new location-based AR Game is expected to become another instant hit.

Pikmin Bloom
Pikmin Bloom, a game featuring adorable pint-sized creatures is developed in collaboration with Nintendo. It is a free-to-play location-based game that leads you around the world looking for colourful seedlings or plat-like creatures. The goal is to search for them and expand your entourage as you move up the levels. As you walk around with your smartphone, your Pikmin will search for various kinds of fruits. You can then feed them with the nectar of the collected fruits, and they will in turn bloom colourful flowers atop their tiny heads. The seedlings can also be planted in the grounds that you walk on, resulting in a beautiful floral trail.

Pikmin squad
Pikmin Bloom can be viewed both in a virtual space and the real world with the help of AR technology. As you go about checking on your Pikmin squad, just tap on the AR icon located on the top left of your phone screen. The app will then ask you to scan your surroundings in order to look for flat space. Once found, an army of the cutesy creatures will magically appear in your real-world environment. You can then rally them with a whistle, feed them with sweet nectar, and watch them grow mesmerising flowers as they go about their minion business.

Collection
As soon as you are done exploring, you can check the growth of your collection, the routes you have traversed, and even the total count of steps you have taken during the game through the app. It also has an option that lets you submit valuable notes and upload your photos of the day to the “lifelog”. Over time, your Pikmin will keep reminding you of these sweet memories as they periodically return with the photos and notes from your past trips. You can also share the photos with your family and friends via social media.

Explore new worlds
Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Pikmin Bloom said that the entire experience of conceiving and watching the magical world taking shape has been quite exciting, as well as a lot of fun. According to the creator, the location-based AR game will let the players explore new worlds simply by leading them to go somewhere new. In fact, this game can also help you see your familiar environment in a new light. For example, the park you regularly visit or the trail you jog every morning may potentially hide a whole new world filled with Pikmins and their floral abundance, which you have not noticed just yet. Therefore, make sure to bring your Pikmin squad whenever you step out of your house, especially when you are travelling to a new place.

Pikmin Bloom is now available on both Android and iOS devices 100% free of charge.
