HBO’s new AR app takes Finding Magic Mike contestants to your living room for a steamy show.
Following the roaring success of the movie Magic Mike, HBO has decided to bring the heat on TV. The channel is going to launch a TV show called Finding Magic Mike, where the dazzling Channing Tatum, the star of the original movie, will help 10 men from across the country to rediscover their “magic”. The star and the director Steven Soderbergh will come together and put the contestants through a style boot camp where they will learn daring dance routines and undergo a makeover before one of them is crowned “the real Magic Mike”. The winner will also take home a hefty cash prize.
To celebrate the premiere of the much-anticipated reality TV show, HBO Max has joined forces with Little Cinema, an award-winning digital creative agency. Together, they will launch a sizzling 8th Wall-powered AR experience called Finding Magic Mike AR Experience. The steamy, personal experience will leave the fans blushing and gushing for air, the channel reported.
In this unique AR experience, viewers will be able to choose one among the 10 real-life contestants of the show and watch them shimmying away with one of their saucy dance routines. The best part of the experience, however, is that you can watch it anywhere you like. Be it your living room or office space. Just make sure no one else is watching you!
To give you the authentic experience of a personal striptease, the app also lets you rain the signature neon pink dollars on your favourite contestant or raise your glass of champagne to show them some love. Believe it or not, you will need some after their show-stopping, floor-burning performance.
During the official press release, P J Mallo, Vice President of Originals Marketing at HBO stated that augmented reality is proving to be a game-changer in the entertainment industry. This is the reason the channel chose this innovative and exciting platform to bring its world-class programming into the fans’ homes. He added that Finding Magic Mike is indeed a fun and charismatic program. So, it gave the creators a great opportunity to experiment and be creative using AR technology. Teaming up with Little Cinema has proved to be exceptionally effective in this regard, remarked Mallo.
To make this unique experience come to life, Little Cinema further took support from the creative studio POWSTER. The latter has worked in notable projects, including Amazon Studios, TNT, National Geographic, and many more. They are entrusted to design and create the overall concept of the Finding Magic Mike AR Experience. Using volumetric footage of the contestants’ original dance moves, POWSTER has been able to produce high-end holograms of the dance routines and include interactive elements in the experience.
The driving force behind this experience is the cutting-edge WebAR technology from 8th Wall. This innovation allows viewers to stream high-quality AR content directly via web browsers, with no app download required.
Finding Magic Mike AR Experience is now available via findingmagicmike-ar.com. The TV show premiers on December 16th on HBO Max.
