A Stunning Spotlight AR Screen Is Unveiled by Elegant

Elegant declares a breakthrough SpotlightTM AR display technology

Compared to traditional LCoS, SpotlightTM display innovation offers up to 90% lighting energy savings and 10x localised contrast.

SpotlightTM display technology, the first adaptable LED lighting architecture for LCoS in the world, is announced by Avegant. The company has made it possible to take advantage of the APL (average pixel level) to save illumination power by up to 90% and increase contrast by more than ten times by dynamically lighting certain areas of an LCoS microdisplay. The benefits of Avegant’s well-established light engines—which are tiny and mature—are retained when SpotlightTM display technology is combined with them to provide polarised output that is full colour, high resolution, and efficient.

Avegant is working with Lumileds and Applied Materials, Inc. on cutting-edge augmented reality technology.

According to Ed Tang, Avegant’s founder and CEO, the firm is thrilled to present the AG-30L2’s success with its revolutionary SpotlightTM display innovation. This will herald in a new age of effectiveness for LCoS light engines by enabling enhanced contrast and the energy-saving advantages of APL, all while maintaining the tiny size, full-colour, high-definition displays that are distinctive of LCoS. Tang expressed that his team is thrilled to be collaborating with incredible collaborators to raise the overall efficiency to an entirely novel stage.

Consumers have been waiting for the maturity of microLED screens in order to benefit from APL. The power-saving advantages of APL, such as permanent content, are made possible by SpotlightTM display technology, which offers an affordable, manufacturable LCoS-based solution that is now on the market. SpotlightTM display technology also maintains complete screen efficiency.

Brendan Moran, Senior Director of Display Technology Development, Lumileds, said that the company is happy—though not shocked—that the cutting-edge LED design allows for hitherto unattainable Augmented Reality energy reductions using SpotlightTM display innovation.

SpotlightTM represents a significant advancement in display technology for lightweight AI smart glasses, as stated by Ludovic Godet, Managing Director and Head of R&D, Engineering for Photonics Platforms Business, Applied Materials, the Office of the CTO. While crafting a display system, full system-level co-optimisation produces the best results. The group is excited to work closely with Avegant to implement these innovations jointly with its top-of-the-line waveguide innovations, which are adaptable, to provide consumers with superior experiences in the domain of AR.
